These treats are one of the treats I recall my Mom telling me that her great Grandma would make. They have been around for an extended amount of time. This must mean that they are with it right? They certainly are in my book. I will certainly continue passing this recipe down through the generations, proudly.
These are a no-bake treat which means that they can be made quickly and eaten almost right away. There are numerous variations for these, however, I am sticking to this basic one for the Peanut Butter Haystacks.
When you grow up hearing that one recipe has been passed down through the line, you grow to appreciate that recipe and those who came before you.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Can I use Chunky Style Peanut Butter?
You could try it, but I have honestly not been satisfied the way the haystacks turned out with the Chunky Peanut Butter.
Do I have to use Chow Mein Noodles?
I do not know of another ingredient that could replace the Chow Mein Noodles in this treat. I do know that there are other Chinese noodle products that are similar, maybe try one of them?
How do I keep these fresh?
I keep ours stored in an airtight container and in the refrigerator. They should stay fresh for up to 7 days.
Can I keep these on the counter?
Again, I prefer refrigerating the haystacks. However, I know some of the family has always stored them in an airtight container and left them on the counter.
