For a simple and tasty weeknight dinner, this Ham and Cheesy Potato Casserole makes its mark as a favorite. Simple ingredients, very little preparation time and you will have dinner on the table in no time. Everyone will be begging for more. Since it is potatoes and cheese, with meat, it is actually one of those miraculous comfort foods.

Comfort foods are the trick to being warm in the winter, did you know that? Seriously though, it does work. Fill your tummy with this delicious dish and you will warm up from the inside out. During the fall and winter, we have so many activities with the kids and sports, that using my slow cooker to do the cooking only makes sense to me.

Casseroles are a great idea to bring to potlucks, gatherings or parties. Many people even prefer casseroles for game day. Besides, why spend all day in the kitchen cooking for game day, and end up missing the game? Making something that cooks in the crockpot gives you more time to enjoy your company and the game. They are filling, so much less food needs to be prepared.

Another tip for this casserole is that you can prepare it ahead of time and bake it before you need it. Who doesn’t like a basic casserole for a warm meal? This can be served with a vegetable side dish or a dinner salad.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Do I have to slice the potatoes?
The potatoes for this dish can also be diced. Sometimes that is simpler and makes sneaking those tastes even easier.
Could I use a different meat?
I am sure that you could precook some ground beef and use that. Shredded chicken would taste great also.
My cheese sauce is not very thick, should I still add the cheese?
Don’t worry, the cheese is going to help thicken the sauce. If you are really unsure, add a little more flour to the milk before you add the cheese.
Can I use frozen hashbrowns for this dish?
Yes, there is actually a similar recipe on another blog that uses hash browns in this casserole.
What can I serve with this dish?
I generally make a simple dinner salad or grill up some green vegetables. I love the way green looks with this casserole. I am a believer in nice looking foods.
