Ingredients:

  • 1 pound fresh okra, sliced into rounds
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup plant-based milk (such as soy milk or almond milk)
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.
  2. Add the plant-based milk to the dry ingredients and stir until the batter is smooth.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or a deep fryer.
  4. Dip each slice of okra into the batter, shaking off any excess.
  5. Carefully place the battered okra slices into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes.
  6. Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried okra from the oil and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to remove any excess oil.
